The film, which has already taken the title of biggest worldwide grossing movie away from Cameron's previous film, Titanic, is now just days away from taking the all-time domestic box office title too. The movie made $9,759 in each of the 3,074 theaters that the film played in bringing its total domestic gross up to roughly $594 million in just seven weeks. Coming in at second place was the Father's revenge film/political thriller Edge Of Darkness starring Mel Gibson, Ray Winston and Danny Huston, directed by Martin Campbell. The film, which played in roughly 3,066 theaters made about $5,584 per theater for an opening weekend total of $17.1 million, proving that audiences still want to see Mel Gibson act.
