The Twilight Saga: New Moon

Here is a good news for Twilight fans.After an unbelievable box office run last fall, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" gets released this weekend on Blu-Ray and DVD, where it should do very well with its rabid fan base as they anticipate the release of third installment of the series this June.

Disney's classically animated "The Princess and the Frog" gets released this week as well, following up an under-the-radar theatrical run last year. Also getting released is acclaimed director Pedro Almodóvar's "Broken Embraces," which was well known among art house crowds but looks to expand its audience in the home market.

With a production budget of just $50 million, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" was one of the most dominant commercial films of 2009, hauling in $296 million domestically and more than $700 million worldwide. "New Moon" also boasted the top opening weekend of the year, as it took in an astonishing $142 million back in late November.

Even with "New Moon" dropping substantially in the weekends following, due mainly to extremely negative criticism, the release still made enough money to solidify "New Moon" as a box office phenomenon.

As we move closer to the June release of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," "Twilight" fans are sure to be interested in "New Moon" as it makes its way onto Blu-Ray and standard DVD. With so much fanfare involved in the series, "Twilight" continues to be a cultural landmark, even though the films have been as polarizing as they have been popular.
